Thank you for your interest in GALA, where girls love to be smart, self-confident, and successful! GALA is the only all-girls public (that's free!) STEM school in LAUSD and California. We are a public school serving girls in Los Angeles 6th-12th grades. We are excited for you and your daughter to visit us online and encourage you to check out our Frequently Asked Questions page.
2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR
We are not accepting any more applications for Middle School. We are accepting a few more for High School.
2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR
Applications are accepted every year from October 1-January 1. School tours will begin each year mid-September.
HOW DO I TOUR GALA?
For the 2020-2021 school year, all of our tours were September-December and virtual due to COVID-19. More information on school tours can be found HERE.
I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT TOURS.
We would love to help you! If you have a question about our tours or if you are another school that would like to include GALA in your Middle or High School fair - we would love to participate!
School Tour Questions:
who should apply?
COLLEGE PREP: GALA is a 6th through 12th grade public school within LAUSD and provides a highly rigorous college preparatory education in an all-girls environment. Applicants should be ready and willing to accept the demands of a challenging academic course load.
STEM: Our focus is science, technology, engineering and mathematics with particular emphasis on computer technology. We also believe the humanities and arts are vital to a well-rounded education.
ALL GIRLS: GALA is an environment that is exclusively devoted to the education of young women. Our all-girls environment fosters collaboration between the school community, girls and their families. GALA’s core values of excellence, leadership, and wellness are instilled throughout every facet of the school.
LAUSD: GALA is open to all girls within LAUSD and outside of LAUSD by permit. If you are coming from out of district and are accepted, you will need to contact your current school system first in order to apply for a permit. This is the responsibility of the parent to secure.

WHAT GRADES DO YOU ACCEPT?
6th - 12th grades.
HOW DO I APPLY?
The application is on our website each October 1st with a deadline of January 1. In some years, we are able to take High School applications past January 1st. Email for info. The application has a section for the parents to fill out and a section for the student. We do not ask for gifted status and we do not ask for a transcript for Middle School. Applications are not first-come-first-served.
WHEN WILL I FIND OUT?
See important dates below.
WHAT IF I AM WAIT LISTED?
Our waiting list is not numbered. After the first round deadline to register passes, we will know how many spots are not claimed. At that time, we will delete anyone who was asked to be removed from our waiting list and then randomize the waiting list.
WILL APPLYING TO ECHOICES AFFECT APPLYING TO GALA?
No. GALA is a separate application and you can apply to both eChoices AND GALA. GALA is not a charter and not a magnet.

“As the first graduating class of 2020, we liked to refer to ourselves as guinea pigs, as we were the first to do everything (in High School) at GALA. As a brand new school, there wasn't a path for us to follow, so instead, we paved one for ourselves. Now, we take that experience out into the world as innovators and pioneers. And those same girls I sat with on the first day at GALA are now heading out to amazing colleges to be doctors, scientists, and world leaders.”
