YOUNG WOMEN'S CAREER CONFERENCE

Every March, GALA hosts this conference which brings women CEOs, politicians, and leaders in their fields to GALA to hold workshops with our GALA girls. Former keynote speakers have included representatives from Tesla, the Clippers, and more! For more information, click HERE.

Here are just a few speakers at GALA.​

  • Ms. Nour - Game Developer at Entertainment Software Corporation

  • Ms. Grimes - Operation Hope Financial Literacy

  • Ms. Moody - WSP Engineering

  • Ms. Glen - Public Affairs Senior Manager at Grifols, a global Biomedical Manufacturing Firm. Girls learned about the industry and participated in a gowning exercise - trying to put on a gown without contaminating it as if they were going into a lab. Thanks to Ms. Hawkins, health professional on Senator Holly Mitchell's STEM education committee, for bringing Ms. Glenn to our school.

  • LA School Board President Monica Garcia and Board Member Nick Melvoin - They visited our campus this week. Mr. Melvoin tweeted that he was "thrilled to see all the amazing electives at the school where girls love to be smart, self-confident and successful."

  • Steve Kang - From Representative Ridley-Thomas' office toured GALA and discussed upcoming internships for 9th and 10th grade students.

Students and parents learned about the latest in Cyberbullying and Cyber Safety from an expert in the field. Students had a lot of questions about the "truth" on how the internet works, federal internet law, and their responisiblity in digital citizenship.

9th Grade was treated to an informative and exciting afternoon with Los Angeles female firefighters who explored careers in the LAFD.

cal high speed rail

GALA was honored with a visit from the all-female light rail team: Michele Boehm (Regional Director), Melissa de la Peña (Regional Manager for Burbank to Anaheim section), and Barbara Marquez (Supervising Environmental Planner). These incredible female leaders oversee the project of over 300 miles of the planned all electric High Speed Rail system in the Southern California Region. 

Career girls

Lynda Calhoun, founder of Career Girls, came to our campus. Career Girls is the curriculum we use in advisory to discuss careers and issues such as integrity and respect. Lynda and her crew did interviews with some of our girls and faculty for a film on providing girls with mentors in STEM which will be presented to a UN subcommittee in New York.

Dr. Sangkhae (Center for Iron Disorders researcher) and Dr. Bulut (professor of pediatrics) from UCLA came to disucss medical career pathways with the girls.
