lausd covid testing - parental consent

ON-SITE LAUSD COVID TESTING:

  • For all on-site Covid testing, including the testing that will take place once school starts, parents need to provide consent. For baseline testing before school, a parent/guardian needs to be present. For ongoing testing at school, parental consent is required.

  • Families already provided this as the system asked them to do so the first time they used the Daily Pass platform.

  • Some families' default action was to respond "no" to all of the questions, thus not consenting to testing.

CONSENT DIRECTIONS:
Families who need to provide consent or aren't sure if they already did should follow these directions. Using a computer is preferable to a cell phone as the screens look different depending on the operating system the cell phone uses.

GALA TESTING FAQ

"What is the window to Covid test?"

All students need to test within 14 days of entering campus. So, if you are coming to GALA orientation on August 12th and school starts on August 16th, in order to take 1 test for both days, the earliest day to test is August 2nd.

"My daughter is vaccinated, does she need to test?"

Yes, even if you are vaccinated.

"Where can I get a test."

The best option is to test through a free LAUSD testing site. You do not have to test at GALA, but LAUSD will be testing at GALA on August 2nd and August 9th from 8:00am-2:30pm. You do not need a reservation for the GALA/LA High School testing dates. You DO need a reservation for any other LAUSD testing site. Students under 18 years old can NOT book their own Covid test... the parent will log into dailypass.lausd.net using their parent portal email log in credentials and designate they are booking for their student when the question pops up. Additional LAUSD testing sites available through the Daily Pass.

"Can I test at a different LAUSD testing site?"

Yes. https://achieve.lausd.net/covidtestingappt

"Do I need to upload my covid test if I took the test at an LAUSD site?"

No, LAUSD automatically puts the results in your Daily Pass.

"Can I test at a non-LAUSD site?"

Yes. If you test at CVS or Walgreens or another site, test on August 2nd or shortly thereafter. As soon as you get your negative test results, you need to upload them to your Daily Pass for LAUSD to review. This can take over a week.

"Will my daughter have to get ongoing Covid tests?"

Yes, LAUSD will require a negative Covid test on the GALA campus during school.

"I don't have time to do testing, can my daughter still attend Orientation and the first day of school?"

No. All students must have a negative test result within 14 days of Orientation and the first day of school.

"If I am coming to Orientation AND the first day of school, do I have to test twice?"

No. As long as you test on August 2nd or after, that will cover both Orientation and the first day of school.

"As a parent, do I have to covid test for Orientation?"

No, parents do not have to covid test for Orientation as it is a student-only event. If you are buying PE uniforms, you can do that in the outside cafeteria tables." The parent orientations, GALA 101 (August 11 at 6pm) for new parents and GALA 201 for returning parents (August 15th at 6pm) will all be virtual on Zoom.

GALA DAILY PASS FAQ

"My daughter does not have a phone, how does she access the Daily Pass?"

You can print out your QR code each morning and bring that paper to school OR she can access the QR code from her GALA-issued Chromebook.

"Can I just email the QR code to school?"

No. The pass must be either shown on a digital device OR printed up at home and that QR code brought to the front gate.

"Can I use the SAME QR code for each day so I only have to print it once?"

No, a new QR code has to be generated in the Daily Pass EACH day.

"What if I don't have a printer or a smart phone?"

Your student will be issued a GALA Chromebook and they can show the Daily Pass QR code on that device."

"How do I log into the Daily Pass?"

You will use your username and password that is associated with your LAUSD Parent Portal account.

"I don't have an LAUSD Parent Portal Account."

Scroll above for instructions.

"If my daughter is vaccinated, should I still upload her vaccination card?"

Yes. Since protocols change rapidly, you can still upload her vaccination card so it can be verified by LAUSD now. That way, if the protocol changes for vaccinated students, she is good to go.

"Can GALA change these protocols?"

No. GALA is an LAUSD school and, as such, we can not make our own Covid protocols. We follow all LAUSD directives.

"How do I get a Daily Pass?"

Scroll up for for more information.

OTHER FAQ

"Will my daughter have to wear a mask?"

Yes, all staff, teachers, and students will wear a mask on campus.

"Does my daughter have to wear a 'uniform' mask?"

No. She can wear her own mask as long as it does not have any inappropriate language, symbols, or pictures. Masks must cover the mouth and nose.

"What if I want my daughter to remain online?"

For 2021-2022, all online students must register through City of Angels, LAUSD's online learning system. Your teachers will NOT be from GALA, but you will keep your place at GALA should you decide to return to in-person this year. There is a deadline so be sure and apply early.
